Livelihood changing of aunt So Phally

Aunt So Phally age 52 years old, her husband name’s Khut Sareth living in Sramor village, Svay Rompea commune, Svay Teab district, Svay Rieng province. Aunt So phally has 4 children and she’s job have depending on rice farming only for eat and sell the rice for support to their children go school. Her family is poor family among of families in the village, she and children haven’t eaten enough food and nutrition because of her have no home gardening and money to buy something for cooking food and one more thing her children are still young cannot help her on rice farm. She have no money for her children go school and buy study materials. “She wants to looking for other jobs in Phnom Penh or outside Cambodia but she miss and pity her youngest children and she wants to propose small business in family, she have no money and if she loaning money from other side the interest is very high around 10% and keep of asset for private bankers and she loan money from microfinance institution, they need license owned lands as well as guarantee” She said.

Since 2013, aunt Phally has bought a piglet from her relative but the piglet is grow very late and it always faced disease because she raising it with classical technical and knew it through her relative. She got a little money from pig raising after 6 months later, she loses after settle for the feeds. She wants to stop pig raising because she loses money and time.
Since 2013, project Improving Income and Nutrition through Community Empowerment (INCOMEI) under funding by Heifer International Cambodia and implementing by Santi Sena has working in her villages (Sramor villages, Svay Rompea commune, Svay Teab district, Svay Rieng province.

During the project has implementing in Sramor villages aunt phally has decised that, she had joined with the self Help Group as member named “Sramor Strey Akpiwat Sansom Prak” and she have savings with 5,000R for every months and she has got some training on animal management and raising and home gardening. After she got training from the project, she has prepared and designed cage for pig raising and she have borrow money from the group amount 150$ and bought 4piglets and she got 1piglet from the project. She has used skills and knowledge what she has learned from the training provided by project INCOME I to practice such as piglets take care, how to make feeding for piglets, vaccination and disease prevention also. She was successfully on pig raising and sow pig has a lot of piglets, after 45dyas she have sold 31 piglets to other community people, she got net income 7,000,000RIeld (1,750$) and she has sold a fattening got net income 1,000,000 Riel (250$). Since 2014, she has decided that, she has created sub-business as seller of pig feeding and condiments seller in the villages for improvement her income in the family.

“After the her family have business and incomes, her family and children has enough food for eat because she has own home gardening and she can collect the vegetables around her home to cooking for their children and she have enough money to buy study materials for children and her children regularly go school” she said.

Outside, she successfully with her business and pig raising, she has shared the experiences and knowledge on pig raising to her relative name brother Mom Sathon who have no experience and knowledge on pig raising. Brother Mom Sathon said that, he knew and have experiences from his aunt name Phally who are very kind with him and she has shared how to pig raising with successfully. However, after he practiced follow his aunt name Phally, he mentioned that, he has successful and he have sold fattening 7pigs and he got net income 3,370,000Riel (824.50$).

Mrs Leur Nary age 52 years old village chief living in Sramor village, Svay Rompea commune, Svay Teab district, mentioned that, niece Phally is very kind and she would like shared experience and knowledge what she have learned to other community people and she is demonstration farmer household for other community people to practice follow her.

Mrs En Sam An is member of self-help group named “Sramor Strey Akpiwat Sansom Prak” mention that, aunt Phally is honesty, friendly and kindly in the group, her family change very fast, before her family is very poor and now she change to medium family in the villages and she is hard working lady in the villages and she would like to share experience and knowledge to other community people in the group.

Aunt Phally is have set up the action plan to scalp up of cage for fattening pig raising because now she have 5 sow and it will provide piglet for raising soon.

Finally, aunt So Phally said that “We really much appreciated with Heifer International Cambodia for supporting and helping to her family as well as poor household in my community”.
